For those wondering if the Washington football team will change its name before the start of the season, think again.
As first reported by Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, Washington will remain WFT for the 2021 season. According to team president Jason Wright, the new name and logo are on the horizon, however.
âThe new name and logo will be revealed in early 2022,â Wright said in the interview. “And (he) will keep the traditional burgundy and gold colors that are steeped in the history of the team.”

Last season, Washington chose to continue rebuilding into a stronger culture by abandoning the controversial term “Redskins” in favor of WFT. Since then, the team has received over 40,000 name and logo submissions from fans, discussion groups and others.
Wright reassured fans that while the name and logo were new, the base of the uniforms wouldn’t. The burgundy and gold color scheme has remained a staple even after the original name was dropped last summer.
Wright also spoke about the team’s plan to move the stadiums once Washington’s FedExField lease expires in five years. He also said his vision would be to have more than just soccer games on the new site, with high-profile events throughout the year to generate more revenue.
Washington returns to training camp for the start of the 2021 season on July 27.
