Goalies 3B Jose Ramirez is one of MLB’s best players, but he has “no interest in appearing in national advertising” like other superstars, according to Marla Ridenour of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. Rafa Nieves of Republik Sports, who represents Ramirez, said his client was “not inclined to give up his day off for a paid shoot or appearance that would take him away” from his nearly 3-year-old daughter. Nieves said: “The industry recognizes that. The average fan might not because they’re in Cleveland and they’re not in your Subway ad or your Geico or State Farm ad. But these companies for national endorsements, they always go for the Mike Trouts and Aaron Judges of the world who play in big markets and who speak English. It’s hard for any Latin player to get that level of exposure. He noted that Ramirez appeared in a commercial for MLB sponsor Banco BHD in his native Dominican Republic. Nieves said Ramirez has endorsements with Adidas, which “is going to give him more momentum, with sporting goods companies Wilson, Franklin and EvoShield.” He added that Ramirez “will partner again this year with Cleveland Coffee on its Jose! Jose! brand, last sold in 2017” (AKRON BEACON LOG, 6/14).
