GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – With ECU football getting closer to its big Military Bowl game another day, our Eric Gullickson has been following the Pirates and has a Christmas practice report.
ECU Football held its last full practice of the season on Saturday morning, Christmas morning, right here at Saint John’s College High School in Washington DC. The Pirates have called their two training sessions here in the nation’s capital the best they have had this season.
: Everyone is fair, we polish everything, everyone is motivated, everyone communicates well at all levels, âsaid ECU senior linebacker Myles Berry.
âWe were really on the move, we looked really fresh, we looked really lively, with great energy, really thrilled with the way the kids are training here,â said the head coach of ECU Mike Houston, âI think they did a great job with the preparation for this game.
It wasn’t all business though. They had a jersey swap before training. The defense wearing the offensive shirts.
âAn idea that Keaton (Mitchell) had. I walked in the corner in the linebacker locker there and it was like switching jerseys, âsaid US cornerback Jaquan McMillian.
âSomething different for the last practice of the year,â says Berry, âIt was cool trading with the guys because the defense has been purple all year. So being offensive, wearing white for a change was cool. “
Even the quarterback trading with his wide receiver. Tyler Snead really cared about being QB1.
âHolton Ahlers has shrunk. “
âI felt really comfortable in the pocket today,â said ECU receiver Tyler Snead while wearing the Holton Ahlers red No.12 training jersey, âThe o line did a great job. had enough time to do the right readings and find the open receivers They did their job catching the ball while making plays.
“Someone put Holton in the dryer.”
âThey work when they are supposed to be working. They have fun when they’re around each other, âsays Houston,â It’s such a fun group to train. We are very lucky to have them.
We’ll have more information on the Pirates’ activities this weekend and hear from Coach Houston Sunday night on WITN News.
