Huntsville spots take advantage of small business Saturday crowds

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Huntsville shoppers in search of Christmas gifts gave local businesses a big boost on Small Business Saturdays.

Maggie Herda of First Place Athletics said she takes pride in serving customers in a way that most major sporting goods chains cannot.

“No matter what you do, we’ll always find something for you and always find the best thing that will match your fitness needs,” Herda said.

Huntsville resident Camilla White said she enjoys searching for family Christmas presents at Harrison Bros. Hardware in downtown, one of the state’s oldest stores, especially after COVID-19 significantly slowed businesses down the previous year.

“I think it’s very unique and I love that they’ve made it a place where they sell local produce,” White said. “I really love coming here, I wanted to share it with (my family). “

The Martin Bar & Bistro also took advantage of the day, as the crowds enjoyed food and drinks while watching the Iron Bowl.

“It’s honestly one of the best bars in town for gambling,” said bargo Daniel Whisenant. “It’s colorful, it’s still alive. There is a lot of people. The drinks are good, the bartenders are pretty good. We love them most of the time. It’s just a good place for the game.
