New Jersey staple Kaj Sanders sums up his electric visit to Notre Dame
Notre Dame has had great success in New Jersey State in the past and present, most recently landing the Catholic quarterback from Bergen Steve Angeli and defensive back Jayden Bellamy in the class of 2022. During the team’s massive recruitment weekend with their battle against Clemson, the Irish staff welcomed Bergen Catholic’s latest star, the defensive back of 2024 Kaj Sander.
The New Jersey native developed a deep relationship with people around Notre Dame, having started communication as his former teammates went through the process. This recent visit allowed Sanders to experience all that makes Notre Dame special, and the trip was certainly successful.
The game set the tone of the visit, and delivered an unforgettable moment.
“The atmosphere was so amazing,” Sanders said. “It was really electric and loud! The highlights are every third or fourth and how loud is the stadium!”
Sanders also had the chance to celebrate the victory firsthand. The energy around the stadium really stood out.
“My interactions with everyone at the game were really cool,” he said. “The fans seemed to be really into it and I loved it. My favorite part was storming the pitch after the game. It was crazy!
After some early season struggles for Notre Dame, this weekend was exactly what the program needed. From the result of the match to the impact with the rookies, it was a game atmosphere to remember. Seeing success on the pitch was huge for rookies, including Sanders.
“It was good to see them being able to bounce back from a tough start to finally start being the team they were meant to be,” Sanders explained. “It was great to see.”
The staff continue to develop a fantastic relationship with Sanders and are watching the talented defender closely. That interest is mutual and worth watching closely as Sanders lets his recruiting process unfold.
Last weekend was a milestone.
Sanders was the difference on the defensive side of football for the Crusaders. In nine games, the junior recorded 34 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and five pass breakups. He also made an impact on offense, albeit sparingly, rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back is considered a four-star rookie by On3. They ranked him as the No. 241 player overall and the No. 22 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2024.
