Police release details of Friday’s armed robbery > PenCityCurrent.com


FORT MADISON – An 18-year-old Argyle man and a 17-year-old Fort Madison teenager are in custody following an armed robbery that took place in the 1900 block of Avenue F on Friday after -midday.

Reports said at 3:17 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block Avenue F for an ongoing burglary call. The victim reportedly returned to his residence and caught the suspects looting his home.

A fight ensued after one of the attackers pulled out a handgun. The suspect was successfully disarmed
by the owner and fled with his accomplices. The victim suffered a minor injury and was later treated in hospital and released.

The main suspects, along with other minors involved, were located shortly after in the burglary area.

At the time, 18-year-old Hunter J. West of Argyle was charged. West was charged with 1st degree burglary and assault while participating in a felony. He was also arrested on charges by Keokuk police for participating in a riot. West was taken to Lee County Jail to await arraignment.

A 17-year-old Fort Madison resident was also arrested and charged with 2nd degree burglary and an outstanding warrant for intentional injury in a November 21, 2021 assault incident. He was incarcerated at the detention center for minors.

All stolen property was recovered, including firearms, sporting goods and a safe.

The investigation is continuing with additional charges being considered. Fort Madison police were assisted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and citizens who provided numerous reports of sightings of the suspects.

The public is reminded that the charges are only a charge of a criminal offence. All subjects are presumed innocent until convicted by a court.
