This USFL team’s uniforms look a lot like 49ers throwbacks

If you watched any USFL football over the weekend, one team’s jerseys looked a lot like the classic red and white 49ers.

Perhaps you decided to tune in to the USFL’s first weekend which saw six of the league’s eight teams kick off what hopes will be a developmental and minor league for the NFL.

However, you could be forgiven if you thought for a second that you were accidentally watching a replay of one of the San Francisco 49ers games in recent years when you turned on the Birmingham Stallions against the New Jersey Generals at home. in the USFL. first match on Saturday, April 16.

The Stallions won 28-24 which is cool… if you find yourself shooting for Birmingham. But there was an awfully striking resemblance between the Stallions’ home jerseys and what the Niners typically wear in their own competitions.

You know, that red and gold breakdown that has become such a classic sporty look.

OK, upon closer examination, you can tell the differences quite easily. But, in these wide-angle TV shots, it sure looks like the Stallions have mixed their uniforms with San Francisco’s in some way.

That’s not the craziest part, though.

The Stallions’ home jerseys look like throwbacks to the classic 1994 49ers

The gold pants would normally seem to indicate a relationship to anything 49ers related, right? And to some extent, they do.

But when you watch this preview video of the uniforms of all eight USFL teams, you can’t help but notice how Birmingham’s jerseys look just like what the Niners wore for their 1994 retro throwbacks:

The gold helmet is still there and the crimson red top looks a lot like what you would have seen wearing in San Francisco.

But the kicker? These white pants with the red and black stripe on the side.

Seriously, you be the judge:

Interestingly enough, the Philadelphia Stars also have a red and gold color scheme, but their “gold” is almost more of a mustard yellow.

The condiment bowl, anyone?

In any case, we can appreciate that the Stallions adopted one of the best uniforms in NFL history as one of their own. And, heck, maybe some 49ers fans will start to adopt Birmingham as their own team simply based on the uniform scheme.

Nothing wrong with that, right?
