The Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. will expand its Jersey Shore plant and also add 125 new jobs there.
A news release said the development comes on top of news last August that the Williamsport plant would expand with additional hiring in Williamsport and the Jersey Shore.
The project, conducted in conjunction with the Pennsylvania state government, provides an investment of more than $65 million to expand the physical footprint of the Jersey Shore plant. This will add an additional 125 Jersey Shore jobs to the 700 jobs already provided in Lycoming County and more than 1,200 jobs in Pennsylvania.
“West will add a variety of full-time and family-oriented career opportunities with this expansion, including machine operators, supply and planning specialists, supervisors, engineers, maintenance technicians and specialists tools”, says the press release.
“This exciting announcement strengthens the skilled workforce found here in our region,” said Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, according to the news release.
“West Pharmaceutical Services recently broke ground on the Williamsport expansion and is already making progress here on Jersey Shore. It’s great to see the partnership between the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s Action Team, County Commissioners, the Borough of Jersey Shore and the Jersey Shore Area School District who have all worked together to ensure this for the community,” he said.
“I congratulate West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. for announcing this nearly $70 million expansion project that will create 125 new jobs in the Jersey Shore area,” said State Representative Joe Hamm, Township of R-Hepburn, according to the news release. “Economic growth and job creation are important to our region and are among my top priorities.
“The borough of Jersey Shore is thrilled to see West Pharmaceutical’s growth and commitment to our community and to providing opportunities for our residents and surrounding communities,” said Jersey Shore Borough Superintendent Cody Hoover, according to the press release,
“We support and welcome their expansion as a positive addition to our community,” said Brian Ulmer, superintendent of the Jersey Shore area school district, according to the news release. “As a comprehensive high school, we look forward to continuing to prepare quality graduates for the workforce in support of local industry like West Pharmaceuticals.”
“It was a true team effort at the local, county and state level to land this Western expansion. The House appreciates the assistance that the Commonwealth, through the Governor’s Action Team, as well as local support from the Borough of Jersey Shore, Jersey Area School District and Lycoming County have provided to make this expansion happen here,” said Jason Fink, president/CEO of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, according to the press release.
