Women’s lacrosse earns playoff berth with win over Stockton
GALLOWAY, NJ (04/30/22) – Dana Meehan and Amanda Ehrhart both reached 100 career points as the Kean University women’s lacrosse team earned a berth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs with a 10-9 win over Stockton University on Saturday afternoon.
Amanda Brzoska had a career-high five points on five goals as the Cougars improve to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC. Michelle Pascrell had six points on five goals and an assist for the Ospreys who fall 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC.
Brzoska scored four times in a tight first half, which saw Kean hold a 6-5 halftime lead. Brzoska scored three in the second quarter, including a goal with 6:13 left. Meehan scored and assisted on a goal in the second quarter, which included his 100and indicate.
In the third quarter, Stockton scored back-to-back goals to take an 8-7 lead in the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, Meehan scored twice as the Cougars held a 10-8 advantage with 6:15 left.
Stockton threatened late with a goal within two minutes and had possession with less than 30 seconds left. Emilie Bretschneider making a key caused a turnover and took the ball out to seal the victory.
Meehan finished with four points on three goals and an assist, while Ehrhart had three points on three assists. Sarah Wagner, Katie Pilegi and Kylie Giordano all scored two points each.
Pilegi and grace michielli combined for 12 draft controls. On the grass, Nicole Peters collected five balls on the ground, while Bretschneider and Rosalee Lachner the two recovered three ground balls each. In defence, Bretschneider recorded four turnovers, while Gwen Sanagustin recorded two.
In net, Peters made 13 saves in 60 minutes of work.
The head coach BJ Johnson and the Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, May 4and at Ewing, NJ against the College of New Jersey Lions at 4:00 p.m.
